“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.” -Colossians 1:9
We are a community of believers who share a faith in the God of the Bible and a love for His son, Jesus Christ.. As a member congregation of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS), Holy Cross Lutheran Church believes, teaches, and confesses faith in Jesus Christ as taught in the Scriptures: the inspired Word of God without error in all that it affirms. We hold to the Lutheran Confessions as the true exposition of the Word of God.
On May 10, 1914, Holy Cross Slovak Lutheran Church of the Unaltered Augsburg Confession was chartered by 22 immigrant Slovak families coming to America with little more than their Bibles, hymnals, prayer books, and an unflinching faith in God’s promises.
Although the demographics and name have changed in the intervening decades, the current congregation maintains our founders’ devotion to the Holy Bible as the inspired Word of God without error in all that it affirms. We hold to the Lutheran Confessions, i.e. the Book of Concord, as the true exposition of the Word of God.
Jesus was sent to reconcile a lost world to God, and he calls us to do the same. We know what a difference Jesus can make in our lives. For this reason, we seek to reach out to the community around us and share the everlasting love of Jesus Christ. For 110 years, Holy Cross has resided at 711 Chestnut St. in Johnstown, PA. fulfilling this mission.
