Former Holy Cross member Robert Rusnak will be honored next month with the dedication of the 4th Avenue Bridge in his memory. By act of the PA General Assembly, the bridge will be formally renamed the Corporal Robert J. Rusnak Memorial Bridge.

Still fondly remembered by the congregation, Lance Corporal Rusnak was killed in action on September 9, 1968, in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam. Corporal Rusnak was mortally wounded by heavy small arm fire when he rushed across the fire-swept terrain to aid a wounded comrade. Corporal Rusnak was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for his heroic actions in the line of duty.

Corporal Rusnak served in Company K, 3rd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division.

The dedication ceremony will be held on Friday, May 3, at 1:00 PM inside the American Legion Post 294, 114 Main St., Johnstown, PA, with a reception following the dedication. The Legion is handicapped accessible from the rear of the building.
